Tutuvi Tutuvi Tutuvi
A project celebrating the vision, spirit and legacy of Colleen Kimura’s Tutuvi brand and her friends, collaborators, and community.
The project has three main components: a fashion show, film, and publication.
A theatrical fashion show was held in August 2024 which aimed to showcase and reimagine the entirety of Tutuvi’s legacy. Produced by a multigenerational team of creatives, the show featured garments from Tutuvi’s archive, as well as past and newly designed collaborations with Reise Kochi, Aiala Rickard, Marika Emi, Bete Mu'u, Rumi Murakami, Toqa, and Taiji Terasaki. It also involved projections and sound design headed by Alec Singer, as well as models drawn from the collaborators’ network.
Documentation of the show, as well as the behind-the-scenes production of the show, will form the basis of an experimental short film by Vincent Bercasio and Sancia Miala Shiba Nash.
A print publication encompassing the project is also being produced in collaboration with nonprofit Tropic Editions. The publication will translate the visually rich, graphic language of Tutuvi into equally colorful printed pages reflecting decades of garments, textiles, and collaborations.
